On Tuesday, U.S. District Attorney Philip R. Sellinger revealed that a group of six men from South Carolina had received prison sentences for their involvement in a scheme to unlawfully sell firearms. Among the weapons sold were nine handguns, which were sold in New Jersey.
Florence, South Carolina resident, Kendell McFadden, aged 31, was handed a two-year prison sentence on Tuesday for his involvement in a two-year plot to transport firearms from South Carolina to New Jersey.
According to officials, the conspiracy that took place between August 2019 and September 2021 involved McFadden and several others who used straw purchasers to buy guns. The group would then transport the firearms to Paterson. Five co-defendants have already received their sentences for their involvement in the scheme.
According to authorities, McFadden and several other defendants were found guilty of felonies and are now prohibited from owning firearms in the future.
According to prosecutors, McFadden and three others were apprehended on September 26, 2021, while traveling from South Carolina to New Jersey. During the interception, authorities discovered nine guns in their possession.
A comment request made to McFadden’s public defender remains unanswered at this time.
