Woman Accused Of Shooting Church’s Chicken Worker To Remain In Prison

On Monday morning, the suspect accused of the murder of a Church’s Chicken employee made her third appearance in court. The incident took place earlier this month in Memphis, Tennessee.

Monica Williams, a 45-year-old, and her defense team chose to waive their right to a bond hearing, despite a judge being prepared to determine the amount she would need to pay to be released from jail.

According to Williams’ attorney, Scott Hall, the postponement will enable them to strengthen their defense.

Hall stated that they are in the process of speaking with individuals and investigating the situation. Their goal is to speak with witnesses and develop a defense strategy.

In July, Anitra West was tragically shot and killed while working at Church’s Chicken in Orange Mound. The suspect in her murder is Williams.

Halls is urging the court to consider the events that unfolded after the shooting while determining the bond.

According to Hall, the woman surrendered herself and was not apprehended by law enforcement officials. It is important to note that the issuance of a warrant does not determine one’s culpability in a given situation. “She made the voluntary move to turn herself into the system,” Hall stated.

The court has scheduled a preliminary hearing on August 20 to assess the sufficiency of evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
