Governor Hochul Announces $108 Million Plan To Convert Bayview Correctional Facility Into Affordable Apartments

During a recent press conference, Gov. Kathy Hochul shared her plan to transform the former Bayview Correctional Facility into an affordable housing complex known as “Liberty Landing.” The $108 million project will provide 124 units of housing for New Yorkers in need. “Liberty Landing is a shining example of how we can repurpose underutilized properties across the state,” said Hochul. The announcement follows another recent investment of $500 million by Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams into affordable housing in New York City. “In just a few years, New Yorkers will be unlocking doors to their beautiful homes in a place where people were once locked behind bars…free from worry with this new affordable housing,” said the governor. The development will be a partnership between Camber Property Group and Osborne Association. In addition to affordable housing, Liberty Landing will provide on-site supportive services, including job training, family and relationship coaching, nutrition counseling, and mental health care. The development will also include a 9,300-square-foot community facility unit that will focus on youth-oriented programming and a 15-unit short-term transitional residence to support individuals with mental health needs requiring temporary housing. “This project is part of our efforts to help New Yorkers and end our housing crisis, making our state more affordable and livable,” said Hochul.
