Indiana Man Killed in Road Rage Confrontation After Approaching Another Driver with Gun, Only Two Weeks After Wedding

A fatal turn was taken during a road rage altercation between two men in Indianapolis, as seen in a viral video captured by a cellphone.

Late Tuesday night, Gavin Dasaur was discovered in the middle of a street on the southeast side of the city, suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the police. Dasaur, who is 29 years old, was found near an interstate.

According to witness statements, the fatal shooting of Dasaur occurred as a result of an altercation with another driver. During the incident, Dasaur and the driver of a white Chevy pickup truck became involved in a confrontation, which ultimately led to the shooting. The police were able to gather this information during their investigation.

As captured in a video by a witness, Dasaur exited his black Honda and proceeded towards the driver’s side of a white Chevy while brandishing a firearm in his right hand. He proceeded to pound on the door and shout at the driver.

Dasaur yelled out, “Do you want to play with me?!” with an intense tone.

As the incident escalated, the driver of the Chevy took out his handgun and fired three shots at Dasaur from the window of his car.

When the first responders arrived at the scene, they found that Dasaur had been pronounced dead. The shooter did not leave his car during the incident.

After detaining the driver of the Chevy, the police later released him based on the possibility that he had acted in self-defense, as indicated by investigators.

Dasaur’s death has been officially declared a homicide by the Marion County medical examiner’s office. Currently, no arrests have been made in connection to the incident.

He was married for over two weeks before Dasaur’s passing.

According to Cinthya ZaMora, Dasaur’s wife, her husband was a diligent man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was determined to provide the best for his family and her. She expressed her devastation at his untimely and senseless death, stating that he did not deserve to die in such a violent manner. The loss of her husband was a tragic event that has left a deep impact on her and their loved ones.

According to Sgt. John Perrine of the Indiana State Police, there were a total of 55 shootings on the interstate in Indianapolis last year. These incidents are believed to be primarily linked to conflicts stemming from road rage.

Perrine explained that while most confrontations do not result in injury or death, people’s inadequate response to stressful or triggering situations often leads to explosive outcomes.

WISH spoke to Officer Tommy Thompson who stressed the importance of being in control of our emotions in all situations. He believes that too often we allow others to determine how we feel, whether it’s due to someone honking their horn or driving slower than we would like. According to Officer Thompson, it’s crucial to maintain emotional control no matter what challenges we may face on the road.

According to the police, the most effective way to steer clear of road rage altercations is to avoid making aggressive gestures and leave the scene immediately if one’s safety is jeopardized.

Perrine emphasized that the key to solving cases is often a result of someone reporting what they saw. “We have had the most success when someone has seen something and reported it to us,” he stated. It’s important to note that even if you don’t witness gunfire or a weapon during an incident of road rage, you should still contact emergency services and provide any information you have. Every detail counts in helping law enforcement solve cases and ensure public safety.
