Months after allegedly being abused by its owner, a poodle puppy named Rocket has been reunited with its rescuers. The estimated one-year-old pup is now safe and sound thanks to the efforts of those who rescued him.
On May 16th, the New York Police Department (NYPD) came to the rescue of Rocket who was found in a Manhattan park. The officers quickly rushed the injured dog to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) Animal Hospital where he arrived in critical condition. Upon arrival, Rocket was found to have bleeding in his mouth, a traumatic brain injury, and a fractured femur. He was also in shock with unstable blood pressure and heart rate. The heroic rescue was captured on the NYPD’s body camera.
After sustaining severe injuries, Rocket was transferred to the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC), where he received specialized care under the ASPCA’s partnership. Once his condition stabilized, the dog was brought back to the ASPCA to undergo surgery for his fractured femur. He then underwent several weeks of physical therapy to aid in his recovery.
Helen M. Irving, RN, MBA, the President and CEO of the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center, expresses gratitude towards the NYPD and the ASPCA for their prompt response to Rocket’s severe injuries. She acknowledges that their immediate action enabled their skilled veterinarians to save Rocket’s life, despite his complicated medical conditions, and set him on the path to recovery.
Rocket has been given extensive medical care and is now prepared for the next phase of his life.
Kris Lindsay, the vice president of ASPCA Animal Recovery Center, expresses immense joy in announcing that Rocket, after receiving weeks of extensive medical care and physical rehabilitation, has successfully recuperated from his critical injuries and is now ready to be taken in by his new caring family.
According to reports, Rocket has found a new home and will be adopted in the next few days.
