According to reports, a Cleveland teen who had been missing and prompted an endangered missing teen alert has now been found safe in New York. The 16-year-old girl was located and is reportedly unharmed.
On July 14, Dais-Marie Alicea disappeared from her grandparents’ residence, leading to an immediate search by Cleveland law enforcement.
Jennifer Alicea, the mother of the victim, expressed her fear and disbelief to Cleveland 19 News. She believed that keeping things simple by not giving her daughter a phone or allowing her to use social media would protect her. She said, “I know sometimes kids get given a phone and they can do stupid things so I keep it as simple as can be. I have a phone if you need it, you can borrow it!”
Despite not having access to phones or social media, Dais-Marie’s online communication with an older man whom she met on her PlayStation gaming system emphasizes the potential risks that children face online.
In regards to the aforementioned threats, FBI Agent William Lee Hasty stressed the importance of parental supervision when it comes to online activities. Hasty has previously issued warnings regarding this matter.
Authorities are currently contemplating pressing charges against the individual who was discovered with Dais-Marie.
