Wyatt Fluty, who fired at a highway patrol trooper during the 2020 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, has been sentenced after reaching a plea agreement with the state. The South Dakota court has now handed down his sentence.
The incident happened across the street from the Big D gas station. A highway patrol trooper asked Fluty to stop, and he began shooting at him. A Minnesota deputy on vacation in Sturgis jumped in to help with the issue. Fluty sustained a gunshot wound, but upon his arrest, he received first aid.
The court has handed down a 50-year prison sentence to Fluty for attempting to murder a law enforcement officer. Moreover, the defendant has been sentenced to an additional five years to be served consecutively for committing a felony while armed with a firearm.
Fluty expressed his concern for his Mother when asked if he had anything to say. He stated, “I don’t feel bad for myself.”
According to the sentence given, Fluty is required to serve a minimum of 75 percent of his 50-year sentence before he can be considered for parole.
