On July 17th, Sorie Mansaray received a 30-year prison sentence, with 12 years to be served, for a shooting incident that was captured on camera in July 2022. Despite having no known address, Mansaray was found guilty and sentenced accordingly.
According to prosecutors, Mansaray fired at a car that entered the 11000 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring on July 22, 2022. As a result, one of the passengers in the car was hit and sustained injuries.
According to reports, the victim received medical attention at a local hospital after the incident. The investigation revealed that Mansaray and the passenger did not have any prior acquaintance, however, they were involved in a confrontation at the Dash In gas station just before the shooting occurred.
According to court records, the victim arrived at the store at 7:57 p.m. after stepping out of a car. A minute later, Mansaray trailed him from a nearby bus stop.
According to the witnesses, the suspect and the victim left the Dash In convenience store at the same time, walking parallel but in opposite directions. The victim was seen staring in the direction of the suspect. At exactly 8:01 p.m., the suspect entered the store, took a drink from the refrigerator, grabbed a bag of chips, and left without paying for them.
The entire incident was captured on camera surveillance.
In April, a jury found Mansaray guilty of:
-
- Attempted second-degree murder;
- First-degree assault;
- Use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence;
- Possession of a regulated firearm by a prohibited person;
- Possession of a firearm by a person under 21 years of age.
When Mansaray completes his prison term, he has been instructed by the judge to serve a period of five years under supervised probation.
State’s Attorney John McCarthy expressed his outrage at the shooting that took place on one of the busiest roads in Montgomery County during daylight hours. He emphasized that this kind of reckless violence is not acceptable in their community and will not be tolerated.
