Prosecutors: Parolee Confesses To Shooting Man During Planned Fistfight In Atlantic City

In a recent development, Jawaun Yeoman, a 27-year-old, has admitted to committing second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and first-degree unlawful possession of a handgun by a prior No Early Release Act felon. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office made it public that Yeoman pleaded guilty to these charges on Tuesday, July 16. The announcement was made through a news release on Wednesday, July 17.

On March 25, 2023, the Atlantic City police swiftly responded to a report of a shooting in the vicinity of Sovereign and Sunset avenues. Upon arrival, they discovered a man with a gunshot wound to his lower back. Fortunately, the injury was deemed “non-life-threatening.”

After the shooting occurred, the men involved fled from the scene. However, in May 2023, Yeoman was apprehended and subsequent ballistic testing confirmed that he had been in possession of the firearm that was used in the shooting.

According to state prison records, Yeoman had served over four years for second-degree robbery and was on parole. He was released on Apr. 28, 2022, after the robbery occurred in Atlantic County in January 2017.

Yeoman has been in state prison since Friday, May 5, 2023, after being arrested for the fistfight shooting. Prosecutors have stated that he is expected to receive a 12-year sentence and must serve eight-and-a-half years before being eligible for parole.

The sentencing of Yeoman was set for October.
