Last month, a Utah teenager went missing while visiting relatives in Mexico City and now the FBI is aiding in the search efforts.
Mexico City authorities are searching for Elizabeth “Ely” Gonzalez, a 14-year-old girl who was last seen on June 30 in the San Juan Tlihuaca neighborhood. The FBI reported that investigators believe she is still in Mexico, although her current location is unknown.
According to FBI Special Agent Steven Hymas, authorities have viewed footage that allegedly depicts an adult coercing Gonzalez to enter a taxi. As of now, Gonzalez has not been located since that incident. These details were reported by KTVX, a local ABC affiliate in Salt Lake City.
Mexico City authorities announced on July 1st that an Amber Alert had been activated for Gonzalez.
When she was last seen, Gonzalez donned a black hoodie, dark blue jeans, and black and white Vans. She stands at a height of 5-foot-1 and weighs 140 pounds. Her features include brown eyes and brown hair.
Alma Soreque, the mother of Gonzalez, revealed that she had a conversation with her daughter on the morning of her disappearance.
According to Soreque, her family called her later that day to inform her that Gonzalez had left to buy a soda from a nearby store but never came back home.
