According to officials, a Detroit woman who is 29 years old has been charged with submitting false time sheets and receiving payments even after being terminated as a caretaker.
According to the office of the Michigan Attorney General, Deseraye Dejarnette has been charged with one count of Medicaid fraud-false claim. This is a serious felony that carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison or a fine of $50,000.
A Medicaid beneficiary with special needs received services from a direct hire/support professional, who was hired by the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network. The woman was appointed for the job.
According to reports, Dejarnette submitted time sheets that were allegedly signed fraudulently, claiming that she had worked in her position from July 15, 2022, to April 27, 2023. However, during that time, she had already been terminated from her job.
Dejarnette was able to receive a total of $19,183.19 for work that she never actually provided, all thanks to the false time sheets that were submitted.
According to Nessel, the appropriate usage of Medicaid funds is crucial, and any fraudulent activities that divert the funds will not be tolerated. She further emphasized that her office is committed to safeguarding the Medicaid program from individuals who seek to exploit it for their personal gain.
Dejarnette was able to secure his release by posting a personal recognizance bond worth $50,000.
She is set to attend her probable cause conference on July 19 and her preliminary examination on July 25.
The Health Care Fraud Division of the Attorney General, which is Michigan’s federally certified Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, was responsible for handling the case.
