Officials have reported that over the weekend, a suspected carjacking suspect was shot by US Marshals outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor in Northwest DC.
The Internal Affairs Bureau of the Metropolitan Police Department initiated an investigation after an 18-year-old named Kentrell Flowers was involved in a shooting that occurred around 1:15 a.m. on Friday, July 5th.
Police officials have reported that separate vehicles belonging to Deputy US Marshals were parked in the 2100 block of 11th Street NW.
According to reports, Flowers tried to carjack one of their vehicles while wielding a handgun, which led the Marshal to draw his own weapon and shoot at him multiple times.
The second Marshal reacted swiftly and discharged his firearm.
After the incident, Flowers was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries that were deemed non-life-threatening. However, both Marshals were unharmed in the situation.
Multiple reports revealed that the incident occurred in close proximity to Sotomayor’s DC condo. There is uncertainty about whether the judge was present during the incident.
Authorities have accused Flowers of committing armed carjacking, carrying a pistol without a license, and possessing a large-capacity ammunition feeding device.
