When visiting New York City in 2025 and planning to stay in a hotel, it may be necessary to bring along more than what you had originally anticipated.
Starting January 1, 2025, hotels in New York state that have over 50 rooms will be prohibited from offering their guests small bottles of “hospitality care” items.
The aim of the newly introduced state law is to minimize waste. As per the law, small bottles are those that are below 12 ounces in size.
According to the bill, a “hospitality personal care product” is a product that hotels provide to their guests. These products are designed for use on the body or any part of the body, with the intention of cleansing, conditioning, or moisturizing.
Personal care products in the hospitality industry consist of various products such as shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and liquid soap, among others.
In 2026, all hotels in New York will be required to comply with the small bottle ban. As a result, numerous hotels have already made the switch and incorporated dispensers for shampoo and/or body wash, allowing guests to use them instead of the small bottles.
