On Monday, the White House announced that President Joe Biden will be hosting a meeting with newly elected British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Wednesday, as part of NATO’s 75th anniversary and bilateral meetings to be held in Washington, D.C.
The meetings of the nations are scheduled from Tuesday to Thursday.
Sweden is one of the latest countries to join NATO, which currently has a total of 32 member nations.
The ruling Conservative Party of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was swept from power after 14 years in government as Britain’s Labor Party won a landslide victory in the general election held on Friday.
In a statement given by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, it was mentioned that President Biden is eagerly anticipating his initial meeting with Prime Minister Starmer. The statement also emphasized the significance of further enhancing the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.
During their meeting, the two leaders will have a chance to thoroughly discuss various issues related to U.S.-UK cooperation. These include offering support to Ukraine, promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region, achieving a ceasefire and securing the release of hostages in Gaza, preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and strengthening the coalition to tackle the threats posed by Iranian-backed Houthi to commercial shipping.
During the discussion, there will be talks about enhancing bilateral collaboration in various fields, including safeguarding advanced technologies and creating innovative solutions to address climate change and promote clean energy. This was stated by her during the briefing.
The White House reported that Biden and Starmer had a conversation on Friday.
In London on Friday morning, King Charles extended an invitation to Sir Keir Starmer, who has been serving as the leader of the Labor Party since 2020, to form a new government under his leadership.
Numerous events are planned to take place at various locations, including the convention center, the White House, and the historic Mellon Auditorium. It is worth noting that the North Atlantic Treaty was signed at the Mellon Auditorium back in 1949, making it a significant location for hosting events.
