Authorities are searching for answers after killing a woman, stuffing her inside a sleeping bag, and leaving her on a dolly next to a pile of trash bags on a Manhattan street on Friday.
Authorities discovered Yazmeen Williams, 31, with a gunshot wound to the head and wrapped in a plastic bag inside a sleeping bag at 207 East 27th St. near Third Avenue in Kips Bay around 5 p.m., according to the NYPD and sources. According to sources, the decomposing body was on a dolly near a mound of waste bags.
“We honestly don’t know who would hurt her,” the woman’s aunt, Nisha Ramirez, told PIX11. “She’s sweet. She’s a lovely lady who grew up here. We’re not sure why somebody would want to harm her.”
Law enforcement sources showed a man on film dragging the bag in an electric wheelchair before detectives discovered his body near a tailor shop. It wasn’t immediately clear how the man was involved in the investigation.
“It’s just evil,” the victim’s cousin stated. “She’s not trash.”
Williams attended college and, according to her relatives, has a twin brother and an 8-year-old sister. She was about to begin a new job with the NYCHA.
“It’s just heartbreaking,” the cousin explained.
The circumstances of the woman’s death remained unclear.
The medical examiner ruled that the occurrence was homicide. There have been no arrests, and the inquiry is ongoing.
“She was murdered and left in a bag on the sidewalk for garbage collection,” according to a GoFundMe page called Justice for Jazzy.
