Two Inmates From Mississippi Successfully Captured After Escape From Jail

On Saturday, two inmates who were being held on murder charges managed to escape from a Mississippi jail. However, they were later caught and taken back into custody.

According to Sheriff Edward Good of Claiborne County, the two individuals, 24-year-old Tyrekennel Collins and 18-year-old Dezarrious Johnson, who had escaped from the Claiborne County Detention Center at around 2:20 a.m. on Friday, were discovered by deputies at an abandoned home on Saturday morning. The abandoned home was located around 60 miles south of Jackson, Mississippi.

According to Good, the two convicts will be taken back to Jefferson County and Copiah County, where they were initially apprehended for the murder. Their escape will result in additional charges, which can lead to a maximum of five years imprisonment.

According to NBC News, Chief Deputy Christy Sykes reported that the inmates managed to escape by climbing through a ceiling panel located in the jail’s common area. Afterward, they proceeded to a nearby window and used bed sheets to rappel down to the ground.

As soon as the duo made their escape, fellow inmates quickly notified the jail staff.

Authorities reported that Johnson sustained a leg injury during his escape, causing him to have a noticeable limp.

Residents were advised by the sheriff’s department to “take necessary precautions” in response to the recent escape of the two suspects, who were still at large and considered dangerous despite not being believed to be armed.

In 2023, Collins was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the killing of his 46-year-old cousin.

In 2022, Johnson allegedly committed murder and aggravated assault resulting in the death of one person and the injury of two others. Johnson now faces charges for these crimes.

According to Sykes, inmates in Claiborne County have had previous success with escaping through a ceiling panel.

She acknowledged that it has been a problem and stated that they are collaborating with the board of supervisors to resolve it promptly.
