Douglas Man Detained After Dispute With Brother And Accused Of Making Threats Towards Stepfather

A 24-year-old man is in custody for reportedly getting into a physical altercation with his 16-year-old brother and making threats to kill his stepfather.

On June 25, a deputy was dispatched to a residence located on Paul Cady Road in response to a domestic dispute, as per the incident report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.

When the deputy arrived at the scene, a woman informed him about a physical altercation involving her two grandsons, including 24-year-old Austin Chaney from Douglas.

After a thorough investigation, the deputy proceeded to interview the juvenile grandson. According to the grandson, he had spent the entire day with Chaney at the river without any issues. However, upon returning to their grandparents’ home, Chaney suddenly became agitated, which raised some concerns.

According to the juvenile involved in the incident, the altercation began over the closing time of a nearby store. He explained that he was sitting in his car when Chaney approached the door and started making threatening gestures towards him.

During the altercation, the juvenile engaged with Chaney, which eventually escalated into a physical struggle and resulted in both individuals falling to the ground.

Chaney’s grandfather was threatened by him, as per the stepfather, juvenile, and grandmother’s statements. They claimed that he had warned of his return and intention to kill his grandfather.

According to the deputy, he has acquired Snapchat footage that confirms the threat made by Chaney.

The deputy was informed by the grandmother that she had taken Chaney to his camper on Waldron Road in an effort to keep him from being arrested.

Afterwards, the deputy discovered Chaney at his camper and observed a substantial head injury. The deputy promptly contacted EMS for further evaluation.

As he waited for EMS, Chaney admitted to playing a prank on his brother by pouring Elmer’s glue on his truck, which sparked the argument.

According to Chaney, he rested his weight on the truck window of the juvenile before the stepfather stepped in to intervene.

After EMS arrived at the scene, they took Chaney to the hospital for a head X-ray. Later that same night, Chaney was spotted leaving the hospital and was subsequently arrested by the deputy on charges of simple assault and making terroristic threats.

Chaney is still in custody at present.
