A boat collision in Long Beach on Wednesday resulted in the tragic death of one person, while 10 others were rushed to the hospital, as stated by the Long Beach Fire Department.
At 9:21 p.m., emergency medical services rushed to Alamitos Bay after receiving reports of a watercraft accident. According to Jake Heflin, a spokesperson for the fire department, the vessel involved was a 40-foot boat that collided with the jetty near Marina Way. Lifeguards and firefighters provided assistance during the rescue operation.
The fire officials reported that a man, aged between 40 to 50 years old, passed away due to the fire outbreak. The identity of the deceased individual has not been disclosed yet.
According to fire officials, 11 individuals were on board the boat during the incident, with three of them sustaining critical injuries. The rescue team had to save four to five people from the boat, while the others were rescued from the jetty.
Four individuals were reported to have sustained serious injuries on the night of the incident, according to fire officials.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash, but they suspect that speed could have played a role.
