In the future, zookeepers intend to introduce the calf to her herd mates one by one. The calf’s father, four-year-old Aidan, has been in Kansas City since 2022.

This is Makali’s second calf; her first, Maxwell, was born in 2018 and relocated in 2020 as part of a breeding recommendation plan. With the arrival of the new calf, the zoo’s giraffe herd now totals five.

Zoo officials mentioned that it will be “some time” before the public can catch a glimpse of the new calf.
