Garden City Community College President Dr. Ryan Ruda has been elected to serve as President of the System Council of Presidents (SCOPs) through the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) and as President of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC).
Ruda was elected to serve in each role by other presidents of Kansas community colleges in the respective organizations. This is the first time in over 20 years that GCCC has had an elected official in either role.
“I am honored to work alongside our other community college leaders and represent the sector to collectively advance the community college mission of access and affordability,” Ruda said. “The Kansas community college system are strong advocates for students and stakeholders that strategically benefit the transfer and workforce development domains.”
The System Council of Presidents (SCOPs) consists of the six presidents of the state’s universities, four presidents selected by the 19 community colleges, one president selected by the six technical colleges, and the President of Washburn University.
The SCOPS meets to consider coordination issues and make recommendations to the Board of Regents on general policy affecting all coordinated institutions. Dr. Ruda will represent all 19 community colleges and work alongside K-State President Linton, the four-year counterpart.
The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) is a college athletic conference member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Region VI. The KJCCC currently has 21 member colleges and comprises 264 teams in 22 sports.
Ruda has served as President of Garden City Community College since 2019 and has
been with the institution for over 20 years. His terms as President of SCOPs and President of KJCCC began July 1, and will continue through June 30, 2024.
