GCHS forensics competes at state contests

The Garden City High School forensics team finished its Kansas State High School Activities Association season at the State Festival in Wichita, and at the State Speech Drama championship tournament at Blue Valley High School, on May 7.

All entries received 1’s at the State Festival, which is a first division rating. The students include Serenity Saddler, Program Oral Interpretation; and Ben Mahoney, Impromptu and Informative.

The team placed eighth overall at the State Championship out of 27 schools.

GCHS had eight of the 16 entries cleared to compete in semi-finals, and there were three cleared to compete in finals. 

Finalists included:

  • Keylyn Fonseca-Cano/Julia Facio, 6th Place Duo Interpretation
  • Savei Nyamakope, 3rd Place Dramatic Interpretation
  • Phybee Madlangbayan, State Runner-up Poetry.
  • Semifinalists included:

  • Christy Donovanm, Poetry
  • Christy Donovan/Emma Lightner, Duo Interpretation
  • Jordan Humprheys, Program Oral Interpretation
  • Pybee Madlangbayan, Program Oral Interpretation

Other State Championship competitors were Kira Roth, Impromptu Speaking and Extemporaneous Speaking; Bryce Orlich, Impromptu Speaking; Savei Nyamakope/Emma Banwell, Duo Interpretation; Kourtney Kneeland, Poetry; Scarlett Storer, Informative; Emma Lightner, Dramatic Interpretation; and Julia Facio, Humorous Interpretation.
