Garden City Community College has received a scholarship donation from Southwest Kansas Builders Association.
Through this, five $1,000 annual scholarships will be available for GCCC Carpentry students this fall.
The Southwest Kansas Builders Association (SWKBA) was a key member in refocusing the Carpentry trade program at GCCC in 2020.
With Finney County’s need to build 400 houses a year for the next ten years, almost 1300 new construction trade workers are needed in order to meet market demands.
Justin Donecker, Vice President of the SWKBA Board, shared why this scholarship was created.
“This scholarship is a realization of a commitment that SWKBA made to invest in the future of the construction trade program at GCCC. We are excited to continue to be a strong advocate for the college as we continue to meet the needs of SW Kansas,” he said.
GCCC President Ryan Ruda expressed apprecitation for the support of Southwest Kansas Builders Association.
“The mission of both SWKBA and GCCC aligns with a strong focus on education and supporting student success and community,” Ruda said. “The scholarships provided address access and affordability. We are appreciative of the partnership and collaboration which exists between SWKBA and GCCC.”
The 2023/2024 Scholarship Application is open now. For scholarship questions, contact the GCCC Financial Aid Office at 620-276-9519 or finaid@gcccks.edu.
