The GCCC Endowment Association has announced the establishment of the Commerce Bancshares Foundation Endowed Scholarship.
This scholarship is part of the President’s Scholarship Initiative devoted to the goal of adding 50 new endowed scholarships to Garden City Community College in 2023.
Commerce Bank, through a gift from the Commerce Bancshares Foundation, was the first business to participate and create an endowed scholarship for this initiative.
“We are always looking for opportunities to empower individuals, strengthen communities and support a strong region,” said Rich Harp, Chairman, Commerce Bank. “A Commerce Bancshares Foundation Endowed Scholarship at GCCC is good for our neighbors and the community. We are proud to lead the way.”
GCCC President, Dr. Ryan Ruda said Commerce Bank has been a strong supporter of GCCC for many years and the college is excited to work with them to create this new opportunity that benefits GCCC students.
“This scholarship helps with affordability for students and student success overall. I want to thank Commerce Bank and the Commerce Bancshares Foundation for this investment and continued support of GCCC,” Ruda said.
The Commerce Bancshares Foundation Endowed Scholarship will be available to full and part-time students pursuing a degree or industry certification through GCCC.
Eligible students must be needs based as determined by the GCCC Financial Aids office.
Past scholarship recipients are eligible each year for additional scholarship funds if they have maintained a GPA of 2.50 or greater and are needs based.
High school students are eligible for this scholarship if they are taking dual credit classes at their high school and GCCC and determined to be needs based.
Students are encouraged to apply early as scholarships are awarded in the order applications are received and until funds are exhausted. The 2023/2024 Scholarship Application is open now.

An endowed scholarship allows you to create a scholarship fund that remains intact forever. The principal is invested, and a portion of the return is used each year to support the scholarship. An endowed scholarship can begin with any amount and build over time.
