GCHS teacher honored with Kansas Horizon Award

Andrew Thiesen, assistant band director at Garden City High School, has received the 2023 Kansas Horizon Award from the Kansas Department of Education.

Thiesen is one of 32 teachers that are being recognized from across the state.

The Kansas Horizon Award recognizes teachers who have done an exemplary job in their first year of teaching.

To be eligible teachers must have successfully completed their first year of teaching and have distinguished themselves as outstanding educators.

As a recipient of the Kansas Horizon Award, Thiesen has been invited to join the Kansas Exemplary Educators Network (KEEN) held each February in Topeka.

KEEN is a network of educators from across the state, allowing teachers to share ideas with other teachers and to participate in a number of professional development programs.
