The community is invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and opening of the Broncbuster Outdoor Fitness Court at noon Friday, November 4.
The Outdoor Fitness Court is located next to the Katherine Jones Tennis Courts near the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex parking lot on the GCCC Campus.
Garden City Community College (GCCC), Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS), and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) partnered to develop the court to expand free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities around the state.
“We need more innovative solutions to address the physical activity needs of all Kansans. Solutions that will level the playing field and allow everyone a safe place to enjoy the outdoors and improve their health,” said Virginia Barnes, director of Blue Health Initiatives at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas. “We believe that all people deserve this opportunity, and we are proud to partner with Garden City Community College and NFC to show our commitment to improving the health of all Kansans.”
The Fitness Court is the world’s best outdoor gym that lets people use their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations.
GCCC President Ryan Ruda praised the collaborate with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and National Fitness Campaign, and also highlighted community partnerships with Dick Construction and Accelacare Physical Therapy who contributed and partnered to make the Broncbuster Outdoor Fitness Court possible
“This project aligns with GCCC’s mission and strategic initiatives of producing positive contributors and ensuring access and affordability to services. The Broncbuster Outdoor Fitness Court is a community resource available to all community members free of charge to help enhance overall health and wellness,” Ruda said.
Created with people aged 14 and over – and with all abilities – in mind, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users also may download the free Fitness Court App which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.
“National Fitness Campaign is proud to welcome Garden City Community College to the campaign as a leader in health and wellness for Kansas and across America,” said Mitch Menaged, Founder of National Fitness Campaign.
