USD 457 new administrators, principals positions

Several new administrators are in new leadership positions for Garden City Public Schools for the 2022-23 school year. 

Dr. Mike Dominguez has been appointed Superintendent.  He comes to the district from Stratford, Texas where he was the superintendent. 

Glenda LaBarbera has been appointed to be the Deputy Superintendent.  She will oversee student services in the district and will be the acting superintendent in the absence of the superintendent. She was previously the Assistant Superintendent in the district.

Jason Johnson has been appointed to be the Assistant Superintendent.  He will oversee Human Resources, Operations, and Curriculum in the district and will be the acting superintendent in the absence of the superintendent and deputy superintendent. He was previously the Director of Curriculum and Assessment in the district.

Dr. Joe Alcorta has been appointed to be the Human Resources Director.  He was previously the superintendent in Dalhart, Texas.

Shane Faurot has been appointed to be the Plant Facilities Director.  He was previously the director of facilities at the Scott County School District.

Heather Stegman has been appointed to be the Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator.  She is transferring from an instructional coach position at Kenneth Henderson Middle School.

Principals and Teacher on Special Assignment

Garden City Public Schools has appointed several experienced staff members to fill key Principal and Teacher on Special Assignment positions in the district for the 2022-23 school year.

  • David DeLoach will be the principal at Gertrude Walker Elementary School.  He is transferring from a Special Education instructor at Alta Brown Elementary School.  
  • Ben Luna will be the interim principal at Buffalo Jones Elementary School.  He is transferring from being a Teacher on Special Assignment at Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center.
  • Whitney Linenberger will be the associate principal in the Public Service Academy at Garden City High School.  She is transferring from being the Teacher on Special Assignment at Abe Hubert Elementary School and Alta Brown Elementary School. 
  • Bryan Kott will be the Teacher on Special Assignment at Abe Hubert Elementary School and Alta Brown Elementary School.  He is transitioning from being the associate principal in the Public Service Academy at Garden City High School.
  • Kelly Gerber will be the Teacher on Special Assignment at Florence Wilson Elementary School and at Victor Ornelas Elementary School. She is coming to the district from St. Dominic Catholic School in Garden City where she was a 5th and 6th grade teacher.
  • Paula Figgs will be the Teacher on Special Assignment at Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center.  She is coming to the district from Liberal where she was a Kindergarten through 5th grade STEM Wheel teacher.
  • Melissa Hayse will be a Teacher on Special Assignment at Garden City High School.  She is moving from being a Special Education teacher at the high school. 

The first day of school for the 2022-23 school year will be Wednesday, Aug. 17 with a half-day orientation for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, seventh grade, ninth and tenth grades and all students new to Garden City Public Schools. 

The first full day of school for the district will be Thursday, August 18.  All classes will be in session for the start of the 2022-23 school year.
