Registration for the Finney County Historical Museum’s 13th Annual Flea Market Festival of Antiques, Collectibles, Art and Crafts is now open for new and returning vendors.
The annual event is set for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 9 just south of the museum inside Lee Richardson Zoo.
The event includes two components – an array of vendors spread out in the sun and shade along sidewalks just inside the zoo, and a 2,880 square-foot sale of quality donated goods on the museum’s outdoor patio and indoor Mary Regan Conference Room.
Donations are being accepted for the indoor and outdoor sale.
The event is sponsored for the museum by Commerce Bank and the Finney County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The 2021 gathering attracted approximately 30 vendor booths and nearly 2,700 shoppers from multiple Kansas communities.
Public admission will be free and visiting vendors are expected to offer antiques, books, boutique finds, candies, clothing, crafts of all kinds, collectibles, decorative items, glassware, metal sculpture and utility items, lamps, personal care products, purses, and sewn items ranging from quilts and baby blankets to potholders and table toppers.
Organizers are also anticipating splatterware, wood crafts, Tupperware, tools from past times, vintage, and contemporary toys, plus plenty of additional merchandise and both take-home and on-site food.
Booth space is $55 each for 10 by 12-foot space, or $65 for spaces with electricity. Vendors should plan on providing their own tables, chairs, tents, or canopies, which are strongly recommended, and other booth components.
“I love the festival,” said Judy Hickert, a veteran vendor from Woodward, Okla. “There’s such a good crowd, there’s great fun and the organizers are very helpful with set-up.”
“I’m looking forward to another year,” said Wesley Nichols, who brings metal items each year from Copeland.
While the festival is underway on the east side of the zoo, the Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo will be conducting an extensive auto show called Jungle Run VII on the west green. Public access to both events is through the zoo’s pedestrian arches.
“It is so nice that this is scheduled at the same time as other local events that draw crowds,” said Beverly Delinger of Garden City.
Registration is available 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays at the museum, 403 S. Fourth Street. For more information, call 620-272-3664.
Donated Items Welcome
For the patio and indoor sale, the museum can accept donations of most clean items in good condition, except for clothing, shoes, books and older-style televisions.
Among items being sought are kitchen goods, games, toys, electronics, smaller home or office furniture, lamps, home décor, holiday decorations, artwork, fabric, dishes, collectible goods and additional flea market or garage sale merchandise.
Donation hours are also 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays, and anyone with a large load of objects is asked to call in advance.
People interested in volunteering to help, especially those who can assist with loading, hauling and carrying, are also encouraged to stop by the museum or call.
