The Garden City High School Drama Department will hold auditions for the Advanced Musical Repertory classes (Fall 2022 and Spring 2023) and Advanced Repertory Play class (Spring 2023) on January 31 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and February 1 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the GCHS Auditorium.
Callback auditions will be held on February 3 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Â
The auditions are open to any current GCHS student, incoming freshman, or any students who are transferring to GCHS next year.
Audition packets are available outside the black box theatre-Room A110, Room C109, Room P127, or the Choir Room. Audition packets can also be picked up from Mr. Wedel in the choir rooms at Kenneth Henderson Middle School and Horace Good Middle School.

The Advanced Musical Repertory class will present a musical each semester next year. The fall 2022 musical will be the 2014 Tony Award winning Best Musical, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder by Robert L Freedman and Steven Lutvak. A distant heir to a family fortune sets out to speed up the line of succession by using a great deal of charm…and a dash of murder. This comedic musical will be adjudicated for the Kansas State Thespian Festival in January 2023.
The spring 2023 musical class will be Jekyll and Hyde by Frank Wildhorn, Steve Cuden and Leslie Bricusse. Based on the classic story by Robert Louis Stevenson, the battle between good and evil comes to life on stage as Dr. Jekyll unleashes the horrible Mr. Hyde.
The Advanced Repertory Play class will present the comedic farce Failure: A Love Story by Phillip Dawkins in the 2023 spring semester. By the end of 1928, all three Fail sisters will be dead — expiring in reserve order, youngest to oldest, from blunt object to the head, disappearance, and finally consumption. Tuneful songs and a whimsical chorus follow the story of Nelly, Jenny June and Gerty as they live out their lives in the family clock repair shop near the Chicago River, before their time unexpectedly runs out. A magical, musical fable where, in the end, the power of love is far greater than any individual’s successes for failures.
