On Tuesday, August 3rd, neighborhoods throughout Garden City will join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for a crime and drug prevention event – The 38th Annual National Night Out. National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and locally by the Garden City Police Department, will involve over 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. In all, over 38 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime” in 2021.On Tuesday, August 3rd, residents throughout Garden City are encouraged to spend the evening outside with neighbors. Many neighborhoods throughout Garden City will be hosting various special events such as block parties, cookouts, youth activities, and visits from local law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS. National Night Out is designed to (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support and participation in local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime.
