The Garden City High School forensics team finished its Kansas State High School Activities Association season at the State Festival and at the State Speech Drama championship tournament on Saturday, May 1. The team finished as the State Runner-up.
Every school in the State Speech Drama championship tournament had a maximum of 16 entries. Garden City High School had eleven entries break to the semi-finals and there were eight entries that made it to the finals.
The GCHS State Runner-up (2nd) students include: Jessica Angulo in Humorous Interpretation, Jessica Angulo/Riley Metheney in Duo Interpretation, and Jyothi Kalarikkal in Program Oral Interpretation.
The students that also rated at the competition include: Riley Metheney took 4th in Prose, Maddie Stout/Chelsea Valadez took 5th in Duo Interpretation, Jacob Wegner took 5th in Humorous Interpretation, Chelsea Valadez took 6th in Prose, and Anne Lofquist took 6th in Program Interpretation.
The other students that comped include: Georgia Fahrmeier/Natalie Unsworth in Duo, Ruben Parral in Prose, Natalie Radke/Alley Cannaley in Duo, Kira Roth in US Extemporaneous, and Anne Lofquist in Duo Interpretation.
Garden City High School students that took “1’s” at the State Festival were Jaelyn Grim in Impromptu, Bryna Bondarenko/Alli Lightner in Duo, and Anna Lobmeyer in Program Interpretation.
The students that received “2’s” at the State Festival were: Anna Lobmeyer in Impromptu and Sam Jacobs in Impromptu.
