GCCC DPS Firearm Trainings 2021 Schedule Released

The Department of Public Safety at Garden City
Community College will host several firearm training courses throughout the year including
Kansas Concealed Carry, NRA Women on Target, and Basic Handgun.
The Kansas Concealed Carry training course is required for all Kansas citizens who desire to
apply for a Concealed Carry Handgun License. Participants must know how to safely handle a
handgun in order to take this course. The training will be offered on March 6th, May 1st, August
7th, October 2nd, and December 4th, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A $100 registration fee, which
includes lunch, is required. Participants must provide their own firearm, 60 rounds of
ammunition, and eye and ear protection.
The NRA Women on Target training course is open to women and girls aged 16 or older who
have a parent also enrolled in the class. No experience is necessary to join this eight-hour
hands-on course covering gun safety and familiarization. Participants are encouraged to bring
their own eye and ear protection. An $85 registration fee, which includes guns and ammo, is
required. This training will be offered on June 5th, and September 11th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Basic Handgun course is open to men, women, and children aged 16 or older who have a
parent also enrolled in the class. This eight-hour hands-on course covers the fundamentals of
handgun operation. It will be offered on April 10th and November 6th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The
$85 registration fee includes guns and ammo, and participants are encouraged to provide their
own eye and ear protection.
Pre-registration and payment are required the Monday before each course to hold your spot.
The classroom portion of the trainings are held on the GCCC campus in the JCVT building,
followed by the practical portion at the shooting range.
