Police Chief Candidates to Participate in Assessment Center

The search for Garden City’s next Police Chief continues. Four candidates will take part in an assessment center next week. The assessment center will provide City Staff and several community partners opportunities to assess an applicant’s skills, abilities, and suitability for the specific job.
The assessment center will be held on February 12th. The City is looking for interested community members to participate in a presentation portion of the assessment center. Candidates will present on a topic relevant to the community in this session. The presentations will be held in the Finnup Center at Lee Richardson Zoo. Community members are encouraged to attend. The space will be set up to allow for social distancing. Masks will be available for any participants that do not have a mask for the session. The schedule is as follows:
• 8:00 am – Colleen Brooks, Dodge City, Kansas Police Department
• 9:15 am – Courtney Prewitt, Garden City Police Department
• 2:15 pm – Randy Ralston, Garden City Police Department
• 3:30 pm – Jerry Harrison, Independence, Kansas Police Department
The City received 17 applications for the Police Chief position. All were reviewed to determine if applicants could meet the minimum education and experience requirements. Seven applicants were selected to take part in initial phone interviews. Four were then chosen to participate in the assessment center and are considered “finalists” for the position.
Those interested in participating in the Police Chief assessment center are asked to RSVP to the Human Resources Department at human.resources@gardencityks.us or 620-276-1175.
