USDA Extends Summer Meal Program District To Provide Free Meals Thru December

Garden City Public Schools will serve meals free of charge to all students starting on Tuesday, September 8th.  This is a temporary program, so families that have not reapplied for free and reduced lunches will still need to turn in a free/reduced application to the district.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released nine nationwide waivers extending flexibilities for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and Seamless Summer Option (SSO) on August 31, 2020. These waivers make it possible for the school district to operate the Summer Food Service Program or Seamless Summer Option through December 2020 or until federal money is no longer available, whichever is sooner.

The Nutrition Services department at Garden City Public Schools is encouraging parents to submit their Free and Reduced-Price Meal application online at https://frapps.horizonsolana.com/GARC01. Parents will follow the instructions on entering the information online. When the application is completed the parent will receive an e-mail confirmation.  Parents who have questions can call the Nutrition Services department from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday at 620-805-7080.  More information can also be found at
