School will be in session during the morning of Monday, August 31st, for Garden City Public Schools, which is the first day of school for the 2020-21 school year for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, seventh grade, ninth and tenth grades and all students new to the district.
There will be no school in the afternoon for a scheduled workday for teachers in the district. The district offices and facilities will be open with regular business hours on Monday. The district is following enhanced entry procedures relating to visitors at all facilities.
The schools will release as follows on Monday: Garden City High School, Garden City Alternate Education Center, Horace Good Middle School and Kenneth Henderson Middle School at 11:03 a.m. The intermediate centers and the elementary schools will release at 11:43 a.m.
The district will start at a Level 3 from the district’s Reopening Plan. Level 3 is On-site Learning with enhanced protective measures and group gatherings are limited. The plan with the levels can be found at www.gckschools.com/starting_school_2020.
Face masks are required for all staff, students, and visitors. Face coverings will be worn as directed. Social distancing will be followed and limit mixing of people as much as possible. Students, staff, and visitors to the school buildings will have their temperature checked before entry into the facility.
Hand washing will be required every hour during the school day by state executive order. Hand sanitizing stations will be in every classroom and throughout the schools.
The first full day of school for Garden City Public Schools will be Tuesday, September 1, 2020. All classes will be in session for the start of the 2020-21 school year.
