Centura Health – Siena Medical
Clinic is pleased to welcome Dr. Lionel Gottschalk to its orthopedic staff.
Gottschalk, who will handle sports medicine and general orthopedics three days
a week at Siena, has taken over the care previously provided locally by Dr.
Clay Greeson.
Gottschalk, who started his new
job Jan. 13, specializes in sports medicine, pediatric sports orthopedics and
hip preservation, which focuses on repairing and restructuring the labrum in
order to avoid hip degenerative disease or a hip replacement for young, active
patients.
With training similar to Greeson’s, Gottschalk doesn’t expect there will be
many changes within the clinic.
“I mainly want to just try to keep doing what he was doing,” Gottschalk said.
“I just have a little bit of extra specialty training in pediatrics, so there
might be a few procedures that he didn’t do that I would be doing. I think he
was doing a great job, and I want to just kind of keep up what he was doing.”
Gottschalk completed multiple fellowship trainings with the University of
Colorado, where he served as a CU sports team physician, and at Children’s
Hospital Colorado. As an undergraduate, he was a rugby national champion
and two-time NCWA Western Conference wrestling champion.
