GARDEN CITY — The annual Tumbleweed Festival gets underway this weekend featuring food, music and children’s activities.
Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the great atmosphere of the West Green at Lee Richardson Zoo for the three day event August 23, 24 and 25.
Whether your musical preference is country, Americana, folk, bluegrass, jazz, funk, Latin or pop prepare your ears for some fantastic talent.
Garden City Arts is hosting the Kid’s Art-a-Palooza, featuring fun
games and projects designed to inspire. The kids also have their own stage as
well as roaming performers throughout the festival grounds.
There are also three additional stages of music, plenty of great festival food, and beer from Flat Mountain Brewhouse.
This year the festival will operate out of the southwest gate. Handicap parking will be available to the east of that gate. Most of the parking will be across Main Street by the softball fields. A crossing will be set up to alert traffic as well as a shuttle to take people to the gate from the parking area.
Lee Richardson Zoo information
Lee Richardson Zoo will be open to pedestrians only (no vehicle traffic) beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, and all day Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24 and 25, due to the festival.
Zoo visitors will be able to view most animal habitats from outside the festival area. The road and sidewalk by the bison and elk, and kangaroo and emu areas will be closed to accommodate festival needs.
The West Green of the zoo will remain open until the festival’s performances have concluded for the day. Other zoo areas will maintain normal hours, and staff will observe its regular 7 p.m. closing procedures for habitats and the rest of the zoo property.
Admission is by wristband. Wristbands cost $20 in advance for adults/$25 at the gate; $15 in advance for youth 11-17/$20 at the gate. Children under 10 get in free with adult.
