GARDEN CITY — Neighborhoods in Garden City will join with thousands of communities nationwide on Tuesday, Aug. 6, as part of the National Night Out crime and drug prevention event.
According to the City of Garden City, the 36th Annual National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and locally by the Garden City Police Department, will involve over 16,500 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 38.5 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’ in 2019.
On Aug. 6, residents throughout Garden City are encouraged to spend the evening outside with neighbors. Many neighborhoods throughout Garden City will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, youth activities, and visits from local law enforcement, firefighters and EMS.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support and participation in local anticrime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime.
Contact Senior Master Patrol Officer Robert Scrivner (620) 276-1300 to register your block party and schedule a visit from your local police, fire and EMS during National Night Out.
