GARDEN CITY —Greg McVey, Director of Athletics and Recreation at the College of DuPage in Illinois, was recently named new Athletic Director at Garden City Community College.
Prior to his time with the Chaparrals, McVey served as the Director of Athletics at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Mo. While in leadership positions over his 25-year career, McVey oversaw nine Missouri Community College Athletic Conference Championships, four NJCAA Region 16 Championships, three NJCAA District Championship teams, and three national tournament appearances, among many other accomplishments.
McVey has also gained valuable experience in leading the progress on upgrades, remodels, and renovations to athletic facilities. McVey is a known supporter of community engagement by athletic departments, such as sports clinics and student-athlete community service projects.
In addition, McVey is knowledgeable when it comes to athletics sponsorships and marketing of athletics programs in order to create revenue streams for the department. McVey earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Saint Joseph’s College in Indiana and a Master’s degree in sports administration from Miami University in Ohio.
“We are ecstatic to bring an individual with such experience, connections, and a great deal of integrity to lead Broncbuster athletics,” said GCCC President Ryan Ruda.
McVey will officially begin at GCCC on May 27. The college will host a press conference and reception during the week of May 6 to welcome McVey to campus and to give the campus and community a chance to meet with their new Athletic Director. Details and a date and time for that event will be announced soon.
