GARDEN CITY — You now have a week to get your admission wristbands for the 41st Annual Garden City Community College Endowment Association Scholarship Auction.
The auction, a spring tradition that raises money for GCCC scholarships, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, in the Finney County Exhibition Building. Doors open at 6 p.m.
This year’s theme is Backyard Barbeque. Admission to the auction is $25 and includes snacks and unlimited beverages. For an additional $10 purchase, patrons can enjoy a barbeque meal, including a pulled pork sandwich and two pork ribs or the lent-friendly choice of baked catfish. Both options will be served with potato salad, baked beans, and a s’mores brownie.
Wristbands, necessary for admission to the event, are only available in advance at the following locations: GCCC Endowment Office, 801 Campus Drive; Kinney Glass, 415 N. EighthSt.; Lewis Chevrolet Cadillac of Garden City, 1903 E. U.S. Highway 50 Business; Skeeter’s Body Shop, 3104 W. Jones Ave.; and Wharton’s for Every Bloomin’ Thing, 906 N. 10th St. No one under age 21 will be allowed to enter the event.
The scholarship auction will include items for both the live and silent auctions, everything from big ticket vacation and concert packages to some Easter baskets for boys and girls.
The silent auction typically contains nearly 150 items, and around 75 items for the live auction.
A big prize this year is a chance to win a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe. The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe features Orange Crush exterior paint, a jet black interior, keyless entry, power seats and sunroof, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, 275 horsepower and 295 lb/ft of torque, eight-speed paddle shift automatic transmission, 18-inch aluminum wheels and more.
The car is currently on display at Lewis Chevrolet Cadillac. Eight Hundred tickets are available for the Camaro raffle at $50 per ticket, with tickets available at the Endowment Association office, or any Endowment Association board member (all of whom are listed on the endowment website); and at the other locations where wristbands are sold.
In addition, during the live auction a donor has provided a 2013 Mazda Miata with 26,000 miles to be auctioned off. Another auction item is an African safari, a trip valued at $10,000.
Next week, leading up to Friday’s auction, the auction catalog will be available to view online at the Endowment Association website: www.gcccendowment.com. Physical catalogs will be available at the event.
A new, fun addition this year is the addition of a “50-50” raffle. In a “50-50” raffle, tickets purchased are put into a pot. Depending on the number of tickets sold, the pot will be split evenly between the winner and the Endowment Association.
Tickets for the “50-50” raffle are $5 per ticket or five tickets for $20.
