GARDEN CITY — The Garden City Community College Department of Music recognized five band students who performed with the Kansas Intercollegiate Band during the Kansas Music Educator’s Conference in Wichita on February 22.

According to a college news release, Emmanuel Ornelas, Ulysses, trumpet; Adrian DeLeon, Garden City, trumpet; Max Giesaking, Ulysses, trombone; Colten May, Garden City, euphonium; and Jared Berry, Garden City, percussion; each had the opportunity to audition and were accepted into the exclusive ensemble.

The Intercollegiate Band, which is comprised of a select group of students from public and private two and four-year colleges from the state of Kansas, only performs every two years during the conference.

With five accepted student musicians participating, GCCC had the largest student representation in the ensemble of any community college in the state.

These GCCC representatives and other participants were under the direction of guest clinician, Dr. Christopher Chapman, Director of Bands at Oregon State University, for a full day and a half of practice and preparation.  The culminating performance was ultimately held at the Century II Convention Center in downtown Wichita.
