Rotary Club presents dictionaries to Garden City students

Alta Brown third-graders proudly show off the new dictionaries received from the Garden City Rotary Club on Wednesday. The Rotary Club is distributing dictionaries to all Garden City Public Schools students this week.

The Garden City Rotary Club has been distributing dictionaries to Garden City Public Schools third-graders this week as part of the Rotary Dictionary Project.

Dictionaries were delivered to students at Georgia Matthews Elementary, Jennie Barker Elementary and Abe Hubert Elementary on Tuesday; and to students at Plymell Elementary, Jennie Wilson Elementary and Alta Brown Elementary today.

On Thursday, the Rotary Club will visit Edith Scheuerman Elementary at 9 a.m., Buffalo Jones Elementary at 10:30 a.m. and Gertrude Walker Elementary at 2 p.m. On Friday, the group will distribute dictionaries to Florence Wilson Elementary at 8:30 a.m. and Victor Ornelas Elementary at 1 p.m.

The object of the Rotary Dictionary Project is to give every student a personal dictionary of their very own that will serve them at least through elementary and middle school.

Receiving dictionaries from Rotary members also allows students to meet successful adults in the community who care enough to provide them dictionaries and come to their schools to present them personally.

Rotary members provide a brief explanation of service projects being done in the community and around the world, which gives students a lasting, positive impression of Rotary and the ideal of service.
