Garden City’s Fourth of July fireworks show begins at sundown on Wednesday!
According to a news release, while most City facilities will be closed Wednesday, The Big Pool and Lee Richardson Zoo will welcome guests during special hours. The Big Pool will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Admission will be free for all veterans and active duty military personnel.
The zoo’s West Green will be open for extended hours for the Municipal Band concert and fireworks viewing. The concert will start at 8 p.m. on the West Green with the fireworks display beginning at dark. No personal fireworks or pets are allowed in the zoo.
Because the Fourth falls on Wild Wednesday (the first Wednesday of the month), the zoo’s Fourth Street vehicle entrance gate will offer free vehicle admission from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. After 8 p.m., the Fifth Street exit gate will be open for latecomers to enter free of charge.
The city will discharge the fireworks from the Arkansas Riverbed just south of the Peebles Complex.
Those wishing to view the fireworks display can also do so from the Finney County Exhibition Building parking lot. No personal fireworks will be allowed in the parking lot the evening of July 4th due to the large number of people that are expected to be in the area.
Finney County GIS has created an interactive event map viewable online that locates the show, the municipal band, restrooms, parking and more. In addition, the map also shows areas where fireworks discharge and public access are prohibited.
