Editor’s Note: This story is part of a month-long series called the 25 Days of Downtown Christmas that will highlight the fantastic selection of retailers in downtown Garden City.

Over the past 21 years, the owner-partners of The Corner on Main may have changed, but not the store’s core goal of providing great service and an inviting atmosphere.

“The store’s changed in the sense that it has to continue to follow the trends of what people are interested in in any given year, as well as stay true to the tradition of what people know us for,” said Liz Sosa, who partners with Haleigh Kells and Andrea Kirchoff as co-owners of the store, located at 324 N. Main St.

“It’s a great opportunity for the three of us to share our love for the retail world and the city we love as well,” Sosa said.

Kirchoff, whose grandmother and mother were two of the original owners, has been a partner for 10 years and has worked in the store since it opened. Sosa has worked at the store for 15 years and been a partner for three years.

“I think each new owner brings a new perspective,” Kirchoff said.

The Corner on Main is a boutique gift shop that offers home decor, accent furniture, specialty food and pantry items, men’s lines, women’s handbags, accessories, jewelry, bridal and baby registries. They offer gift wrapping and delivery service and can help customers pick out the right gift if they are stumped.

“We are a gift store,” said Kells, a partner for four years. “We’re kind of unique because we have several different things. We have a children’s room in the back that has clothes and toys and gift items, and then we also have things that brides would register for, things to get their homes started, kitchen stuff, dishware, home decor items. We also have handbags and accessories, candles, I mean you name it. I feel like we’re a one-stop shop gift shop. We have something for everybody.”

Indeed, the store offers the YETI line of coolers and drinkware and other things geared toward men, as well as a pantry area, Christmas ornaments and trees and the staff has an expertise in home decor they are always willing to share. Kells pointed out the store picked up a new line this year called Simply Southern whose tees and sherpas have been really hot this winter.

Kells said customer service sets their business apart from the big box type stores.

“We like to be unique and make relationships with our customers. We try to do everything we can to make it easy on them. And our environment. We have hot cider here, and it’s always nicer to shop when you are comfortable,” she said.

Being located downtown is the perfect spot for them, and Kells would encourage any entrepreneur interested in starting a new business or relocating an existing one to come downtown.

“We love it! We wouldn’t trade it for the world. It’s the core of our town. I just feel like it’s what makes us unique,” Kells said.

The Corner on Main’s hours through Christmas are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
