Summer Food Service program starts June 5

The Garden City Public Schools Summer Food Service program from June 5 and through July 27 provides children 18 years old and younger free meals at a number of locations in Garden City.

Breakfasts will be served Monday through Thursday from 8 to 8:30 a.m. at Garfield Early Childhood Center and Charles O. Stones Intermediate Center through June 28.  Garden City High School will serve breakfast from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. through July 27.

Hot lunches will be served June 5 – June 28 from 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. at Abe Hubert Elementary, Buffalo Jones Elementary, Florence Wilson Elementary, Gertrude Walker Elementary and Victor Ornelas Elementary.  Lunch will also be served from 11:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Horace J. Good Middle School and Garden City High School from June 5 – July 27.  No meals will be served July 3 – July 7.

Lunches will be served at Charles O. Stones Intermediate Center from 11:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. July 10 – 27.  Lunches will be served at Community Congregational Church, 710 N. Third St., June 5 – July 28 from 11:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., and the Presbyterian Church, 1719 Texas St., will serve lunches on Saturdays only from 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. through June and July.

Sack lunches will be provided Monday – Thursday at Ayala Park, 11 a.m. to noon; the swimming pool, 12:30 – 1:15 p.m.; Mary Street Apartments, 11 – 11:45 a.m.; Youth Services, 11:00 – 11:45 a.m.; Finnup Park, 11:00 – 11:30 a.m.; Salvation Army, (Monday-Friday) noon  – 12:30 p.m. and Public Library (Fridays and Saturdays) 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Supper will be served June 5 – July 28, Monday through Thursday, from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Tabernaculo Bautista Church, 3111 E. Spruce St. Sack suppers will be provided at First Christian Church on Wednesdays starting on June 21 and ending on July 12, from 5:00 – 5:45 p.m.

Adults wishing to eat with their child can purchase a meal for $4. No meal reservations are required and there are no qualifying guidelines or paperwork to fill out. Participants can go to the location serving breakfast, lunch, or supper during the designated times and they will be accommodated.  Locations and times are posted at www.gckschools.com.
